The Sidney Prize for Socially Conscious Journalism
Founded in 2007 and supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation, the sidney prize is given monthly to an outstanding piece of socially conscious journalism published in traditional print and online media. The winner receives $5000 and two runners-up receive $750 each, and all shortlisted entries will be published in Overland’s autumn 2024 issue. The judges — Patrick Lenton, Alice Bishop and Sara Saleh — thank all who entered and wish the winners well in their future work.
The September Sidney Prize was awarded to Jennifer Gonnerman for “Last Home Standing,” a profile of Jacqueline Tamaklo, one of millions of people victimized by predatory mortgage lenders. Gonnerman is a reporter for New York magazine. Her story can be read here.
