Top 5 Sydney Pools
We all know that Sydney is blessed with stunning stretches of sand and surf, but the city is also home to a smorgasbord of beautiful swimming pools. From humble rockpools hewn out of beach headlands to high-tech aquatic leisure parks, here are some of Sydney’s best places to take a dip this summer.
A trip to a local pool is not just about swimming laps and enjoying the company of your mates, it’s about being a part of a community and finding an escape from the humdrum of daily life. That’s why so many people find their happy place in the water, whether it’s an ocean pool or a suburban pool.
Located in the heart of inner Sydney, this beautiful pool oozes that Riviera vibe you’d expect from a pool that boasted a National Architecture Award when it was upgraded back in 2014. This place is always packed with sunbathers, and the 50-metre pool is always at just the right jumping-in temperature.
It’s a great spot to spend an afternoon with your kids and a BBQ, or just sit on the lawn and watch the world go by. There are even a few sun lounges for those who prefer to soak up some rays in comfort. The best thing about this spot is that it’s free, and you can swim here at any time of the day, regardless of whether the park is closed to the public.
Anyone who grew up in Sydney during the 90s will beg their parents to take them here at least once, and they’ll probably tell you that it was one of the best days of their lives. Despite its age, this is still a great spot to spend an afternoon, with a waterslide, whirlpool, hot tubs and kiddies area. Plus, if you’re lucky, the sun will be shining and the pool will be warm enough for a refreshing dive.
North Sydney Olympic Pool was a dream project for local politician Kylea Tink, who helped to run the redevelopment of this heritage-listed pool. But the final bill blew out to over $100m, thanks to political infighting, claims of pork-barrelling and a lack of transparency. As a result, the council has now voted to increase rates by 87% over two years.
